Crawford concluded a 33-year career in the Metropolitan Police CID at the end of 1998, with a final appointment as Head of Intelligence Coordination with the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS). During this time, he led an Inspection & Review process, the National Confidential Human Source Programme, and represented NCIS on the national working party forming the arrangements for  procedures between Police and the Security Service. A keynote speaker at European Union Conferences on Organised Crime and Specialist Intelligence Gathering Techniques.

Entered the commercial world initially as Operational Security Adviser for BSkyB, then many years as Group Director of Security with De La Rue plc (International Currencies and Passports) involving security audits at key risk sites, and a number of highly sensitive investigations in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.

Consultancy followed, working on private sector company security audits, fraud investigations, and on behalf of the Singapore Prison Service developing and delivering an Investigation Skills training programme to assist staff in the gathering of intelligence to counter illicit gambling in the Republic. Crawford’s final consultancy was an Investigator (under contract) by the Serious Fraud Office on the successful largest UK business corruption investigation of its kind.

Joining the WCoSP in 2009, and a Court Assistant since 2016, his contributions to the work of the Company include the Finance & General Purposes Committee (current since 2012), Steward 2013-16, Apprentice Master 2016-20, Secretary to the Court Succession Advisory Group 2017-21, Mentoring Scheme 2018-20, and assistance with curation of topics for the Company Newsletter.

A past charity lead for ASIS UK, Deputy Chair of EPIC (Ex Police in Industry & Commerce), Board Member of EICSM (European Institute of Corporate Security Management), Victim Support adviser, and still serving on the Crimestoppers Committee for Surrey since 2018.
