Christmas Lunch – Friday 5 December
‘Christmas has officially started’, so I declared at our 2025 Christmas Lunch, held at the magnificent Plaisterers’ Hall on Friday 5 December. Members and guests were joined by the amazing Carolean Singers, back by popular demand, who commenced proceedings with a traditional Carol.
During my speech I welcomed our Principal Guests, Dr Daren Bowyer, Director of the Gurkha Museum in Winchester (who later proposed the Toast to the Company) and Brigadier Sarah Pringle-Smith, Provost Marshal (Army). Earlier in the day I had the privilege of welcoming the Brigadier as an Honorary Freeman of the Company. I presented our 2 Clerks, Adrienne and Tricia, with gifts to mark their 5 and 15 years, respectively, of loyal and committed service.
I was also pleased to thank and present a Certificate to Carlisle Support Services who kindly sponsored the event. After Lunch the Carolean Singers led us in a rendition of ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and, of course, our traditional and unique way of singing ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’! We ended with ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’.
A Stirrup Cup was enjoyed post-Lunch. This was a really lovely event enjoyed by all in a stunning venue, with delicious food and wines and excellent service.
