The Masters’ Weekend
The ‘Masters’ Weekend’ is held annually in early June and is an excellent opportunity for all Livery Masters and Consorts to join the Lord Mayor and 2 Sheriffs of London, and their Consorts, for a couple of days to get to know one another and learn more about a particular venue. Previously this was held in Ironbridge but now the venue changes.
This year was Aberdeen and the 2 days were hosted by the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, which organised an excellent programme.
The Friday evening Black Tie reception was hosted at Trinity Hall and we had the huge honour of being joined by HRH The Princess Royal.
The following day was a visit to the Port of Aberdeen, where we had the rare access to the Marine Operations Control Centre; the fishing village of Footdee; Crathes Castle and the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
In the evening we all enjoyed a Black Tie Ceilidh and for some of us, who hadn’t done Scottish dancing for many years, a quick lesson on the key steps!
The following morning we all gathered at King’s College Chapel for Sunday service before departing.
For me, as one of the newest Masters in the Livery (I had only been installed 2 days previously!) this was an excellent way of meeting other Masters and forging new friendships. I look forward to the year ahead!
