The Architects’ Lecture – 17 June
On Tuesday 17 June I was invited by The Architects’ Company to their annual Milo lecture at 8 Bishopsgate. 8 Bishopsgate was the winner of the Architects’ Company’s City Building of the Year Award in 2024 and was designed by Wilkinson Eyre. We were welcomed on arrival with drinks before proceeding into the purpose- built Auditorium for the lecture.
Afterwards we enjoyed drinks and canapés, which gave us an opportunity to meet many of the Architects’ Company and other Livery Masters.
The lecture is named after their first Clerk, Col Peter Milo. The speaker on this occasion was Sir Charles Saumarez Smith CBE, who trained as an architectural historian and who gave a fascinating lecture on ‘The Role of the Client’, specifically in the
design/building process.
