Coopers’ Cask Race – 21 June
A first for the Security Professionals! A team, consisting of the Master, IPM, Middle Warden and Past Master Russell Penny (and half way through Tel Folkman, Chair of the Services’ Committee), took part in the 4th annual Coopers’ Cask Race at Guildhall Yard on a hot Saturday morning, 21 June.
Relay teams of 4 members had to roll a large (and heavy!) barrel across Guildhall Yard, each team doing it 3 times against 2 other teams, attempting to get to the Grand Final. ‘Team Security’ put on a stalwart performance, cheered on by partners, but sadly did not reach the Final, which was won by The Merchant Taylors – congratulations to them as the new Champions.
Everyone had a great deal of fun and the true spirit of fellowship, commitment, and some very friendly Livery rivalry, were evident throughout. It was also good to see Past Master Steve Emmins representing ‘Pollinating London’.
A post- race drink at ‘The Wren’ went down extremely well! We hope to encourage other members to form a team next year, especially our Young Members/Apprentices, who could take on our more youthful competitors!
Sue Jones,
Master
