I am currently studying BA English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Having been bound to the first former Apprentice to become an Apprentice Master, Tilly Sherwood, on 26th November 2020, I am part of the newest intake of Apprentices within the Company.

Despite this, I have already managed to take advantage of an array of opportunities available within the Company, including attendance at the Covid-19 Security Lectures, a series of inspiring and educational webinars run throughout summer. I have also been actively engaged in support of our website redesign, meeting with members of the Company over Zoom to formulate ideas and initiatives to ensure a positive user-experience. Currently, I am working with the communications sub-committee to streamline the editing and publication process of Company communications.

As I am aspiring to pursue a career in Journalism, I have utilised the networking opportunities made available by becoming part of the Company to write articles and conduct interviews to be published in Concrete, UEA’s student newspaper for which I am Editor-in-Chief. Recently, I interviewed Immediate Past Master Mike Barley on his experiences as a former United Nations Weapons Inspector in Iraq – an extremely valuable opportunity.

Having developed a close relationship with my Apprentice Master, Tilly continues to support my career-related endeavours, offering advice on a wide array of subjects, from work experience to suggested reading material, keeping up-to-date with my latest articles, and facilitating networking opportunities.

Although only at the start of my Apprenticeship journey, I am already reaping the benefits of being part of such a supportive and benevolent community. I look forward to progressing my personal development over the next four years.
