Mike Lees MSc CSyP FSyI works as the Lead Technical Specialist (formerly Head of Protective Services) at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. His current role oversees security management, business continuity, and emergency response initiatives coordinating a team that includes two in-house security managers and contracted security staff.
Mike ensures the safety and security of the hospital critical national infrastructure environment adhering to NPSA guidance. Under his leadership, the hospital implemented body-worn cameras for security and nursing personnel and a new model of NHS security management. He emphasises the importance of comprehensive training, robust policies, and high-quality equipment in the successful deployment of security technologies.
Mike is also responsible for the Trust’s complex surveillance strategy ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, patient privacy and maintaining transparency in surveillance practices. His commitment to safety and dignity is evident in the meticulous procedures outlined for the use of surveillance systems within the hospital.
Mike is a member of the Chartered Security Professional Register and serves as one of two Deputy Registrar’s. He is also a Fellow of The Security Institute and sits on both the Validation Board and Validation Board Working Group. He is a passionate Yorkshiremen and confesses to being a mediocre beekeeper, drummer and drone pilot.
