About the SBF

Founded in 2006 by John Purnell, then Master of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP), and his successor, Peter French, the Security Benevolent Fund is a means of providing direct support and relief to individuals in the industry community who are struggling and have fallen on hard times. For those working or retired from careers in Security, the Blue Light Services, or the Armed Forces, the SBF was established as a Reserve Fund within the Trust to grant financial aid to applicants.

Assistance is varied, ranging from food vouchers and basic necessities to covering the cost of urgent medical treatments and equipment.

Who We Help

The SBF assists with welfare, legal, medical, and health related guidance and support for current and retired employees in the security sector and their families. Over the years, the SBF has helped those battling terminal illness, working as a single parent having fled an abusive partner, and families of security professionals left struggling in the wake of a bereavement.

There is no standard applicant or standard circumstance. The SBF has been designed with flexibility in mind to take into account each applicant’s needs so that we can best serve and support our community.

How It Works

Once an application has been submitted by an individual or an organization/third party on the individual’s behalf, it will be reviewed by the Trust’s SBF Welfare Officer. If the application meets the fund’s criteria, the Trustees will review the merits of the application and, if approved, payments will be made. It should be noted that monies are not generally paid directly to an individual but to an organization or reputable body that will supervise the spend.

How You Can Help

If you know of someone who could benefit from the SBF, please fill out the contact form here to refer an applicant.

The SBF is always open to donations, and we encourage them not just from members of the Company but members of the wider community. Remember, all donations made to the SBF go directly to helping the men and women who are often on the front lines of keeping us safe and secure.
