The Livery Companies of the City of London traditionally maintain formal links with the Armed Services, with many supporting multiple military units. These active affiliations play a vital role for both the military and the respective Company.
The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) has six military affiliates, which, in order of affiliation, are: the Royal Air Force Regiment; the Royal Military Police; the Royal Air Force Police; 3 Military Intelligence Battalion; HMS MEDWAY; and 35 Engineer Regiment (Close Support).
The Services’ Committee (SC) manages these relationships, assigning dedicated points of contact to maintain regular communication with each unit.
The SC also oversees the annual Company Awards, which recognise outstanding individuals from each affiliate. Recipients are nominated by their own units, and the Master presents the accolades at the annual Awards Lunch during the first week of July.
Armed Forces Covenant
We commit to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant and support the Armed Forces Community. We recognise the contribution that Service
personnel, both regular and reservist, veterans and military families make to our organisation, our community and to the country.

Royal Navy

The Royal Navy was first affiliated with the Company in 2006, initially through HMS SEVERN. This sparked 11 years of dynamic engagement between the Company and the ship’s proactive crew. Following her decommissioning in 2017 – marked by a ceremony at HM Naval Base Portsmouth on 27 October 2017 to celebrate the safe completion of her commission – the Royal Navy nominated HMS MEDWAY as her successor. She was formally adopted as our naval affiliate in 2018.
HMS MEDWAY is a Batch 2 River-class Offshore Patrol Vessel, named after the River Medway in Kent. Launched in 2017 and commissioned in 2019, she is currently deployed to the Caribbean as the Royal Navy’s permanent presence in the region. In this role, HMS MEDWAY supports the British Overseas Territories, remains ready to assist with relief efforts in the event of a natural disaster, and actively contributes to international counter-illicit trafficking operations.
The Company’s Sailor of the Year Award, The Mike Welply Memorial Award, is presented annually to a member of HMS MEDWAY’s company.
